We only had a few days in Johannesburg and Soweto, but even that short visit left a lasting impression.

Instead of treating it as a quick stopover on the way to Europe, we decided to spend a little time understanding where we were. Staying near the airport made logistics easy, and a half-day guided visit helped us see both central Johannesburg and Soweto without feeling rushed. It was simple, manageable, and far more meaningful than we expected.
